Interesting that Eriksson is supporting these again. When the transmission failed on my '97 CSE about 5 years ago they were just dropping support for pre-GM Saabs. However they were still happy to answer questions about the problems I was having and the diagnosis at that time was a broken band inside the transmission. Have you tried calling Eriksson and discussing the problem for possible causes? Might be something relatively simple like a part in the valve body being stuck.
In my case I wound up installing a used transmission that allegedly had only 90,000 miles on it. Whether that's true or not, it's still working well years later. Of course buying a used transmission is a gamble and installing it in these cars is a very big job.
