Quick update - The Tech II I have (the Chinese copy that most people use) requires aux 12V power to function. When I disconnect 12V power the amber LED comes on and it won't communicate. Anyhow, plugging and unplugging the OBD plug (with aux power) make a noticeable difference in idle quality and overall performance. Power or ground is definitely a problem. Doesn't explain why the car doesn't come up to temp. I let the car idle in the driveway after getting home last night and it will get to 180 degrees when stationary and the Tstat does open. The upper rad hose gets hot enough where you can't leave your hand on it. Tech II engine temp correlates so I believe the temp sensor is OK. I even shut off the HVAC fan to see if it would raise the engine temp during my drive in and it did not increase. If the car only gets to 140 deg F I wonder if it even gets out of warm up mode?
