It's an '88 with 180K km. The car has been driven extremenly hard and has a lot of extra hp. Previous owner drove it on the Autobaun regularily over 200kph for 5 years before importing the car to Canada. I had a little oil burning after a couple minutes idling, then went away. Oil was leaking down into the manifold, then when the manifold got hot it burned off. The 15W killed that problem.
Since my head gasket is being replaced, I'm getting the head totally referb. The Saab master tech here said it is fairly common for the valve seals to do this at these miles (or at least at this age, '88). Maybe being stored in the winter (in Ontario) had something to do with it.
Did a leak down test and only a very little liquid passed through, not bad at all considering it's spirited history (not nearly enough leak to burn oil) Headgasket only had a pinhole from 3 episodes of coolant loss, one at the top of a ski hill. Keep your heater hoses in check!
