I just had a similar problem on my 1988 9000 turbo. Fixed it by cleaning up the Air Mass Meter (or air mass sensor). It is the cylinder inline with the air intake with an electrical connector. Remove it, and pull the screens off both ends. Be very gentle now because you don't want to break the hair thin wires inside the sensor (I did and had to get a master to solder it back together!!) I used generic carberator cleaner and knocked 200k miles worth of oil and dirt off it. Upon reinstallation, the car runs like a top. Give it a try!
