I have a '96 CS that I bought used back in Jan. It had about 82K kms on it then and now has 115K on it. It has been pretty reliable only suffering from failures of rad hoses, front suspension bearing supports, and the original battery. All things that are normal maintenance items, it was just a bit sooner here because of the environment (rough roads and salt air). My CS was optioned with every available CS option except power seats so is quite close to the CSE with the notable exception of the 2.3 FPT motor. The car will run on any fuel and I typically average somewhere in the 29 miles to US gal range (a Yank in Canada so I still confuse my units of measure). I really can't say that anything has freaked me out from a reliabilty or performanace standpoint. And being my fourth SAAB out of 37 cars since I was 16, it appears to be ready to stand out as one of the better cars I have owned.
I don't think you could go wrong unless you had an opportunity to get hold of a CSE for roughly the same kind of money.
