I wrote on Monday Dec 5 and asked about the fact that my heater fan doesn't get a signal to go on, though the fan works and my mechanic has it wired to stay on all of the time as a temporary measure. "Aero guy" kindly offered advice about the power transister, and my mechanic appreciated his help. But now he has asked me to ask you for further advice. First, he thinks that the transistor cannot be the problem because if it were the heater would always be on but the speed would not be able to be adjusted. Is that correct? Secondly, he wanted me to tell you that I have an electronic climate control system not a manual system... if that makes any difference. He thinks that the problem is with the control box, but if we buy a new one it will cost about $1300 Canadian and we can't return it if that is not the problem. Also, the car is a 1991 with over 220,000 kms and I have already spent a fortune trying to fix this problem. I spent a couple of thousand dollars trying to repair the a/c and ended up not only with no a/c but no control of the heater fan.
I would be grateful for any help you could give me. I don't understand why the control box can't be tested but it had been to two Saab dealerships already with no diagnosis. Everything seems to work on the control box... direction of heat, temperature regulation, etc. it just won't turn on the heater fan.... or the a/c
I really love my Saab, but I am getting very discouraged. Last year the cam chain broke and that repair was very expensive, and now this.
Thanks for letting me whine.
