I haven't had to repair either one of my fan controll units (93 9K CS & CSE) yet so I don't know what the signal voltage to the fan speed control transistor would be. It is said to be a darlington transistor by previous contributors which means it takes a tiny amount of current probably on a 12V max level to be full speed. You should see a decreasing voltage signal input to the module to slow the fan. A darlington transistor is a stacked pair of two transistors one regulating more current into the final drive transistor but the package has only 3 leads input (base - B), power in [case of device or tab depending on shape of package] is the collector - C), and output (emitter - E). If shorted C to E, fan will be full on! If B has super high omhs + B/- E or - B/+ E it is open and fan will not get juice to run. To check a diode or transistor with an older Volt-Ohm-Meters use RX10 or RX100 scales and apply leads to device forward and reverse to look for a 10:1 or 100:1 resistance ratio. With a new digital meter that has a diode checker symbol in the range choices look for a .7 volts one way on diode and max ~~2.6V?maybe~~(like it is not hooked to anthing) the other way. It shows voltage devolped across the junction of DUT. (Device Under Test) On a transistor (ok now talk like a tronics tek: "zitter") with diode checker try each lead to others reversing and noting voltage. Low one way and high the other is good. Were are a small community (us 9Kers) If you have extra module which needs checking / fixed and you can't find a local tronics shop send it here. Winter is coming, my pool is covered for the winter, I can only hide just so long in my woods cutting wood , I'll need something to do. If I get several I can buy the zitters cheaper in bulk which will be your cost. Anyone out there got some good forecasts on the corn and soybean market. Will work for data!
