125mph in the 55?

Ok guys, here's the deal. I have this 86 9kt, and I'm slowly but surely working out all of it's old bugs. The latest one is this: My speedometer needle jumps all over the place. I will be doing [around] 60 on the highway, but the speedo says I'm doing 75. No, 85. No, 120. Oops, sorry, 75. It acts like a cable that is about to snap, bouncing all over the place. Someone told me that these cars don't have cables though. Is this true? How do I fix this? Another thing, how do I fix my high beam switch so that it will stay on high beams when i want them on? Someone mentioned that there is a square plastic puck type of thing (i guess)in the steering column on the switch itself that gets melted and rounded off. Is this the case? And how do I get to it? If it's going to be an all-day, tear the dash off the car type of job, then to hell with it, i'll hold it. But if it's a fairly easy job, i'd love to do it! Thanks in advance to all who respond! ~Matt
