Well got the dreaded check engine light this morning on my 96 Aero. Funny thing is that is was just 25 miles before the car reached 100k km (62.5k miles), Hmmm...I wonder if it one of the those automaticly triggered maintenance things ? It happened as I was going up a long gradual hill on the 400 hi-way doing a steady 120 (75 mph). The car doesn't feel any different and has been running ok lately except for a few minor things. When cruising on the highway at steady speed and I start to go up-hill there is a slight hesitation. Also when cruising, I sometimes get a slight surge as if something just clicked on and the car is suddenly runing better. The DI was replaced last year when I was getting serious mis-firing when cruising and this is nothing like that. The plugs aren't too old but that shouldn't cause the check engine light. Fuel milage has droped a bit over the last few months so I wonder if its the O2 sensor or sensors as the 96 Aero has 2 of them, one before and one after the cat. converter. Is there anyway to extract the engine codes ? or only a Saab dealer has the tools? I wonder if I should just replace the O2 sensor or both of them with aftermarket Bosch or NGK to save some money.
Thanks.
