I'm not sure about this because I've never done it, but I think it's
feasible. I agree that the bag itself is sort of a redundancy, given
how well the seatbelts function, the design of the cabin, etc. I have
replaced the airbag on the steering wheel of my previous '92, which
I bought from a salvage yard. There's simply a two wire connector
that goes to the bag - I'm sure it's the same sort of set-up on the
passenger bag. Whether the computer can tell whether or not
the bag is connected, I'm not sure - my guess is that it can't, but
I don't want to lead you into a quagmire. Besides, if you can disable
the bag without upsetting the SRS box, the matter of 'transplanting'
a glove box in its' place may be more difficult as I'm not sure if the
opening for the airbag module is the same as the opening for the
glove box - there are two different part no.s for the instrument panel
housing. I'm sure someone else on the board will know. Just
remember to disconnect your battery before fooling around with
the airbag!
