My converted 91 will freeze me out on the hottest days when it is running correctly. However (there always seems to be a however), I have been plagued by persistent and unidentifiable leak(s). Chasing leaks, and break and fixing things in the process, has been a true education in auto ac.
There are a couple of important things to consider with the conversion. First, 134a will not cool the car as fast as r12. The vent temps will get down there, but it takes longer. The second thing is that correct fan operation and a clean condensor and evaporator (I am talking about the outside) are really important.
You really need an accurate thermometer to measure ac performance. I would say that even on a 100 degree day, after 15 min of driving, you should see vent temps of 50F or below. If your vent temps are higher, that would indicate a problem to me. My converted 91 will get down to about 48. I also have a 93 which is factory 134a. The 93 cools faster and gets about 4 to 6 degrees cooler. I suspect that the factory 134a cools faster because it has a condensor designed for 134a. The greater cooling may be an anomoly since both cars appear to cycle about about the same pressures.
Who did your conversion? Was the receiver/drier changed? Has performance deteriorated since the conversion was done?
