...take a trip down to Louisiana. Seeing any Saab is an event.

Suspension-wise (springs, shocks, tires, and wheels), the '91-'92 9KT 5-doors were very close. The engines of these cars were similar, and although gearing is shorter and turbo smaller to effect a quicker spool-up giving a snappier feel at low speeds for the earlier cars, the '93-'97 Aeros had larger Mitsubishi turbos that increased overall output (225 hp). Also contributing to output are higher boost levels in the Aeros. We're talking 5-speeds here, as the slushbox-equipped Aeros have basically the same 200-hp engine as the earlier cars.

In '99 I had both a '91 and my present '95 Aero here together, both 5-speeds, and the '91 was a bit snappier at lower speeds. But I feel in terms of flat-out performance, the Aero was better, as was top speed (marginal) and gas mileage (significant because of taller gearing). Aero seats are, of course, special--and the interior of later model Aeros is quite "loaded" with all the bells and whistles.

I found mine in Atlanta, about 525 miles away, which wasn't a big problem implementing. Unabashedly prejudiced, I'd say find an Aero, preferably a southern car if available because of climate and little exposure to salt on roads. Check the TSN classifieds, as I see them frequently there.

One caveat on the '92 cars, which is otherwise nearly identical to the '91, is the presence of TCS, which can be problematic. Aeros from '93-4 also had TCS, and in '95's TCS was optional. With '93-'95 cars (I think), there will be a TCS switch on the dash if so equipped. The '92's had non-switchable TCS.
