I've not driven an Aero, but I also have a '95 CSE. The '91 has a lot more zip, stiffer suspension too. Can't tell you about Aeros, though. I've seen about a half dozen Aeros in the Madison area.
Definitely go south to get your car. If you can combine this with another trip, you won't feel so much pressure to buy an unsatisfactory car that you went some great distance to see. Chicago cars are way too rusty, but downstate Illinois is not so bad (I got my '91 in Bloomington, IL). St. Louis or south of there would be best. If you find a southern '91 9kt, you'd save money over getting an Aero and then could do some upgrades. Or, you could spend another couple thousand on a winter car, because if you're like me, you won't want to rust your '91, and they salt in the worst way in Madison (pet peeve of mine). Watch the TSN classifieds; it may take a few months for "your" car to appear.
BTW, if you're looking for a mechanic, check out Dunn's Imports in Middleton (University Ave.). There are things he doesn't know about Saabs, such as the fact that the engine mounts do go bad, but I've been happier with his work than with others.
