Andrew,
The Aero takes unleaded premium. I have fun bragging about my 97 CSE being able to run on regular unleaded and still kick butt :-) I drove a 94 CDE automatic once and felt that it was reasonably quick. My CSE is a manual though, and I find that it's a bit slow off the line, but once I've got about 3,000 RPM and head for second gear the thing is hard to beat, considering it's a 4 cylinder 4 door car!
My CSE has about 55k miles on it. There are a couple of squeeks, not really rattles though. The Aero is a bit stiffer, so you can expect to hear more noises (eventually).
I've got my eye on a 94 Aero 5 spd with 60k miles on it: looks like they dropped the proice cause someone vadalized it- broke the driver's window and ripped out the stereo. The interior is better than any other Aero I've seen. Unfortunately I just lost my job and don't think that it's wise to be buying another car at this time: I do need cheering up though :-) Nonetheless, I'll be taking it for a test drive- heck, it's a hobby of mine (to test drive any Aero I find) :-)
BTW - Anyone else noticing that hatchbacks are making a comeback? What the heck was Saab thinking when it discontinued the 9000!
