I also went from a 9-3 to a 5-speed 9000 Aero. Had a '98 Base Auto 9-3, but after driving the 9000 once I couldn't go back.

Rattles bug me a lot, but wouldn't wouldn't make or break my purchase. My Aero is a fair bit older than my 9-3, so it does rattle a little more. Much of this is caused by the rougher Aero ride. The most annoying problems are in the dashboard face and the window trim. I will be fixing these when I get around to it. For now, I just turn up the radio! You could have all rattles removed at a high-end custom stereo shop for several hundred dollars. They'll know every trick there is to eliminating cabin noise and should do a pretty good job. I wouldn't try the dealership, a mechanic, or a chain-store stereo place. Only a really high-end shop will take the proper care and get the job done right.
