I think that it will fit in the body, I'm not aware of mounting or sheet metal changes (but I'm not all that familiar with the earlier cars, so someone should confirm that). However, you need to think about how you will handle the transmission and drive axles (changed, along with brakes between '72 and '78), wiring (major differences, location of fuse panel changed, different functions due to different fuel system, etc.), and fuel system ('78 is CIS with Lambda, so it has in-tank fuel pump, all different lines, different wiring, control module, etc., etc.). So, I think you have a big job to use the '78 engine in the '72 car.
