Kevin,
Thanks for your input.
As you may know, the reason for this thread is to determine the correct ignition timing for the vehicle. My m72 99, 2.0L, has the Bosch 0 231 179 001 distibutor which was used on the 5/73-on EMS. It also has the D-Jetronic injection.
The water pump shaft is the STEEL 8 cog, as opposed to the CAST IRON 12 cog. I believe that the 8 cog has proven to be more reliable and easier to service. The cast iron is much more brittle and more easily subject to cracking upon removal.
I don't think that it matters whether it has the early or late flywheel because it would only seem logical that top dead center/zero degrees are referenced the same.
The Haynes manual says '71-'74 2.0L injection should be 13 degrees BTDC, AND 8 degrees BTDC for USA models. The vehicle runs lousy at 8 degrees. The only SAAB-Scania service manual that I have is dated Sept. 1973, which says 12 degrees BTDC, and for USA cars up to 73 is 8 degrees BTDC, and USA cars from 1974 is 4 degrees BTDC! In the supplement, Haynes says 1976 (manual gearbox) is 24 degrees BTDC, and 1977/1978 (manual gearbox) is 20 degrees BTDC, both @ 2000 RPM.
I am confused.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Jon
