...many automobile manufacturers shipped vehicles without radio and therefore without antenna. Destination dealers were responsible to install optional equipment, such as AM/FM and even short wave was still used in some countries. Apparently, the antenna location installation instructions from the factory were vague. Does anyone have any bulletins which were issued from the factory concerning this matter? I have owned and driven several early 99's (69-72) and most of them had their antennas installed on the right side of the vehicle about 2 1/2" to 2 3/4" in front of the lower corner of the windscreen. On many later 99's, installation was on the left side of the vehicle behind the lower corner of the rear windshield glass, but this location required a long antenna wire which is difficult to route and easily damaged.
