My biggest fear when pulling it occurred in the first few seconds, as it made a loud "pop" when I gave the wrench a turn. I thought for sure the threaded portion at the top of the pump shaft broke off, since there was only half of it remaining from the last time I did the job(pic linked). I turned some more, and noticed the impeller was rotating as I pulled it, which is what you want > it needs to rotate to un-mesh with the drive gear. Same goes for installation, and rocking the car in gear seems to help it mesh as it presses in.
I'm in no hurry I guess, since we have 3-4 more months of winter before I'll drive it again.
