Toomany, If you sheered those bolts off, it wouldn't be a mild sound. Those trannies have a small internal filter that can clogover time, eventually killing vital parts. It sounds like there is no way around it but pull it, and examine. If your performance was going, but you were still functional, I'd suggest trying using some Duralube transmission additive. It cleans off all the gum and varnish off the valves and clutch packs in an auto tranny instantly. Amazing stuff. I actually revived a completely dead Ford transmission with a $12 bottle of this stuff a few years back. You could perhaps try this...Walmart sells a Duralube kit for $20. It comes with engine treatment, fuel injection cleaner, the tranny treatment, and a lube spray as well. Put the tranny treatment in, and see if you have any change. Use the other stuff in another car. A stuck valve or glazed clutch pack could possibly do what's happening, but you would be getting very lucky. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. Any Automatic owners following this post, trust me...put this stuff in your car now! Before you have problems! It truly works, and does prevent transmission failures.
