A good 99 story Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Sun, 3 Jul 2005 21:19:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've been busy with the 78T resto(also has a locked up engine), so I haven't scanned ebay for the last month looking for parts. Thursday night I had some spare time so I decided to see what was listed.
99 turbo engine...$200 starting bid, buy it now for $500...listed in Fremont, OH, about an hour from me!!....auction ending in less than 2 days. I send the guy an email asking what's the least he'll take for it. $250 he replies. I reply back> is $250 final? He replies back he'd take no less than $225. $225 is good I think, I'll call you after the auction closes if you give me your phone number for directions to your house. I'll use the 86T to haul it in. I had some reluctancy to driving to a strangers house, but figured what the hell. Saab guy, he must be good.
So I call him Saturday afternoon for details and we get to gabbing about 99's. The more we talk the more the guy gets excited. He's finally found someone close by that is as much a 99 freak as he is. He mentions he currently has a 76EMS(Texas car) for sale, and a mint 74EMS Oregon car(sunset orange) which doesn't run after he replaced the engine. I told him I'd be out Sunday morning for the T engine, but called him back 20 minutes later to say I'd be there in an hour. I guess I was excited too!
I get there to find he has a garage to die for > could easily put 20-30 cars in it. We BS for at least an hour before loading the engine, then for a half hour after loading it. Great guy! Instant friendship! Never knew each other existed so close by!
So, I need to go back since he offered me a whole 'nother engine and tranny combo for free, and I offered to check out his 74EMS to see if I could figure out his no start problem(he did offer to pay me).
No pictures....the camera batteries decided to die when I got there.:( Pictures the next visit though.
