First I'd look for rust. Second I'd look for wiring issues. See if there has been some wiring mumbo jumbo having taken place in the past. It isn't a horribly hard thing to fix, but sometimes they can be a bit of a nightmare. Look for the weephole on the engine block to see if the water pump seals are still working. I look for interior things as the seats are so much cooler than 900 seats but they are nearly impossible to find in good shape any more. It could cost more to redo the interior than to have the car repainted.
