I don't mean to beat a dead Saab, but having parts for the Saab 99 and 900 B engines for myself and our fellow Saabers is my drive for pursuing this. This site is such a great resource for so many, including myself, so let's get it right.
I found it interesting that the same part number for the tensioner for the double chain MGB is the exact same part number as the tensioner for the TR7 single chain. This is according to AutoPartsWarehouse.com and PartsGeek.com. There are other auto parts sites that also show the same exact tensioner for both.
From your posting, I would say that you know a lot more about this than I, but is it possible that these tensioners have the heaver spring (say, for a double chain), and that the heavier spring in the tensioner will also work fine for the lighter/single chains? (the reverse obviously not being true)? And that these tensioners I am finding have the heaver spring and therefore will work for the Saab? These parts look identical, so perhaps they will bolt up with no problem. Plus the tensioner appears to be wide enough for the Saab since it appears to work for the double chain MGB(according to several web sites). We might have plenty of tensioners on hand for the B engine after all.
Is there anyone out there that is waiting to find a Saab OEM tensioner that would be willing to buy one of these tensioners for $15 - $20 to check it out for the rest of us? I have the spares I need for a while.
