Hey all,
I took my car to be inspected today it's a 1978 99 Turbo with 37,700 miles on it. It is in beautiful original shape the interior is perfect. There is a slight fuel smell. The fuel pump and sender are totally dry no issue there. My mechanic (Vinny from Manning Motors in Glen Cove) has been working on Saabs for over 30 years. He remembered a recall from 1979 that called for replacing the rubber fuel pipe connector from the filler neck to the tank with a metal one. That was never done in my car... The rubber pipe is dry with no leaks... It just lets the fuel smell get out.
I also asked him about installing A/C in the car. He did hundreds of them back in the day. I even have someone with the original new in the box original kit from Saab. He thought about it and pretty much said that he could do it, but it would be a mistake to do that. I was kind of planning on driving this car every day, so now I am kind of bummed. He said that the car is a great car... I mean the thing is so perfect. Everything works, the interior is perfect. It drives sweet. It's just that I live on Long Island and you kind of need A/C here.
Any hints??
