Warren, congrats, the 1978 recall was for only all 3 doors. It only entailed cutting the opening in the Tool compartment area to not chaffe the metal pipe that came thru this rectangular body opening. If tank overflow spout was damaged they were fixed ( soldering) or replaced. Plastic tanks came in 1980. I personally take the 1.2 PSI tank pressurization valve out of the vent line circuit. If in the system, any fuel leak smell will be much exagerated. Tank pressurization valve lives near the roll over valve in the c pillar area, foot from quarter window latch. Pull the boot side panels and trace vent line up from filler neck area. Saab Engineers were trying to lessen fuel pump vapor lock and fuel boiling as those fuel air bubbles aeriated and when sent thru pump air bubbles were noisy. ( bumble bee's in a can sound)I simply place in a VW Bug clear plastic fuel filter in place of the tank pressure valve. The Rollover valve is in metal collar screwed onto body, same area. Go up front too and make sure conections draught to intake, also one way there at canister exit, to keep boost positive pressure away from charcoal cannister. Replace fuel sender gasket and Fuel pump rubber collar it hangs ( mounted) from and new fuel pick up hose too( bottom of pump)
