Tom, This isn't an easy thing to diagnose without being at the car. There are a few things that come to mind though...Did you really get on the car just before the noise started? It may just be you loosened up the front mount. Did they replace the pressure plate and throw-out bearing? Is the clutch adjusted properly? If it is over adjusted, the throw-out bearing will make noise as you've described, and the clutch will still function. Take your clutch cover off, and run it in neutral. If the noise is a lot louder, that may be it. You can loosen the adjustment rod locknut, and carefully back off the adjustment rod with engine running until the throw-out bearing just barely makes contact and starts to spin. If your not handy, have someone else do this...this could be very dangerous. As far as that side mount missing bracket goes, it was added to production, but some didn't have it at all. Try to track one down.
