Towing is always a task and especially long distance. I personnally would not recomend towing a 96 with a 99. The wieght differance between the two vehicles is most likely minimal. This will cause the 96 to want to push the 99 around a bit, you'll be trouble in an emergency situation! Have you thought about renting a ryder truck and putting the 96 inside the ryder. I have done this before and it works great. The only obsticle is finding a trucking company or someone with a loading ramp or dock that you can drice or push the vehicle onto the ryder. Ryder is far better then u-haul. As far as saving money on this project, I would recommend spending what you need to to safly transfer the vehicle. Saving money by cutting corners usually means more money and loads more aggrivation in the end. Good luck, and if you decide to tow the 96 with the 99 let me know your route, so I can stay off the road during that time.
