My parents had a 99 -76 with a single Stromberg CD 175 once. Back in those days, the authorized Saab dealer would change the carburator needle at every 10,000 km service and the brass jet at every 20,000 km service. I have owned very many 99s and it is simply amazing how much smoother the engine runs after changing these two parts on an old car. Even wear marks, invisible to the human eye, on the surface of the needle can have a serious impact on the mixture ratio and fuel mileage. The needle type is B1DS (stamped on the side) and has to be adjusted so the bottom edge of the little clear plastic washer on the needle, is in line with the bottom of the carburator piston. The top end of the brass jet has to be exactly 2.5 mm (0.089") below level in the carburator housing.
Good luck!

- I meant Stromberg CD 175, not 275 - n/m, Jonathan Dennis, Thu, 22 May 2003 20:11:52
