You are getting good advice from Brian and Spiv! I agree that the first step is to bleed the brakes. If theyve been sitting for some time, air
geets in the lines and the pedal goes to the floor. If you are cheap like
I am you can do a relatively easy one man brake bleed as follows. 1. Get an
empty mason jar or equivelant, a 1/4" socket or combination wrench and about 14" of line that will just fit over the tiny bleeder screws, one per wheel on the inside of the backing plate. 2. Fill the mason jar 1/2 full of brake fluid. 3. Loosen the bleeder screw a 1/2 turn with your !/4" wrench. 4. Stick one end of the hose on the bleeder screw and the other end
submersed in the mason jar. 5. You can probably twist the bleeder screw by hand another full turn, then get in the car and give the brake pedal about 4 or 5 depressions, you should start to feel some resistance on the pedal.
6. Get out and get under, tighten the bleeder screw while the hose is still
submerged. Now is a good time to look for leaks in the lines. I start at the front and work my way to the bak, but other more insightful persons may
disagree. You may have to do this two or three times and there is a lot of "getting out and getting under", but one man can bleed the brakes this way. If the pedal is still going to the floor after three trials, you probably have a leak in a line or the M. C. is bad. Good Luck ?(;)?
