Big difference among 1500s -- early ones had 'open deck' block design and it will be harder to find rebuild parts for them. Later 1500s and all 1700s had 'closed deck' and are more common, easier to find parts. You'll need to know which you have before you order head gaskets etc.
Difference between 'open' and 'closed' refers to water passages at the top of the block.
I think there's more about this in the site archives.
