Turn signal/flashers sometimes non functioning

Does anyone know what would cause my turn signals and flashers to stop working for a brief period of time, and start working again for no apparent reason?!?
I could not find any loose wires on a fast inspection under the dash, and don't seem to have any other electrical issues.
Yesterday, during a brief trip out with the 96, while sitting at a light with my turn signal on, I noticed that it had quit blinking. After pulling into a parking lot a playing with the stalk, I also noticed that the flashers didn't work either (I ruled out a bad blinker switch when I noticed that the flashers didn't work either.) I checked my headlights and parking lights - they worked fine. After returning home and putting the car away, I gave them another try and they worked again. Since then, they have stopped, and started working again.
Does anyone have any ideas, or has anyone encountered anything like this before?
Thanks in advance,
Randy
