Kansas, I find you to be negative. I rebuilt 900 5 speeds, and bought many "special" Saab tools years ago. I will add that some of those tools were not totally necessary. I also have been working on Saabs since the early nineties; thus you are not aware of my patience and skill.
It is your type of advice that produces fear in a person who is interested in learning and rebuilding a part. What are we talking of? Overthrowing the government, rocket science, or taking apart a small metal box that has freaking gears??? A box that was assmeble by MEN! in the first place; not gods!
A stand is very important for it keeps the box stationary when you place force to remove the parts. If you do not have a stationary transmission, then it flops around as it is not a heavy box, bringing quick frustration.
"I am a full-time mechanic with my own shop and a 25-year owner of a SAAB 95 wagon. I have rebuilt the transmission myself. I recommend that you should not undertake this project. I could do it again but I have friends who can do it better."
So Kansas, what is the difference between you and your friends, that can do it better?
