Although an amature, I replaced those in my 71 Sonett and several other vintage cars. Rubber "Glass Setting Tape" holds the glass in the channel. I use a flat screwdriver that is narrow enough to fit between the bottom edge of the glass and the inside bottom edge of the channel, and gently tap the screwdriver between the two like a wedge, or twist the screwdriver to force an opening. Heating it up first couldn't hurt. Once you start to get some movement, it will become easier to pry the channel off. I have yet to chip or crack any glass, but if you do hry s chip it will be on the bottom edge. The chances of actually cracking/breaking the glass is nearly nil because the pressure is applied from the bottom edge. My concern was bending the metal channel more so than cracking the glass. New rubber setting tape (measure the thickness you need) may be available at your local auto glass supply, however I got mine from Restoration Specialties. If it would be of assistance, I have 4' of 1/16" thick and 20" of 3/32" thick (by 1-1/2") wide tape (on the shelf collecting dust) that I would be happy to mail to you if you need it.
