Ray,
Good point. Call Chip! Read the following to arm yourself with the correct questions to ask.
I just took a look through Jack's ICH installation manual- I actually have the 1st edition and the 2nd edition. He basically says the following:
1. The two outlet thermostat pipe interferes with the nose of the carb. You have to either a) go to a one outlet pipe and plumb the other hose into the hole just above the temp sender that currently has a plug or b) get a special semi-rare two outlet pipe that doesn't interfere. I happened to have the latter.
2. Remove the thermostatic vacuum switch and the decel valve- throw both away! Plug the holes.
3. The PCV valve "MAY" interfere with the choke assy. If so, you have to move the PCV valve to a different place. He recommends drilling a hole in the #3 runner in the intake manifold, tapping it (1/4" NPT) and installing it there. Obviously, the hole in the intermediate plate where the PCV valve was must be plugged.
4. Use only one vacuum line- from the bottom of the carb (not the intermediate plate) over to the distributor advance side (the one that sticks up). Leave the other one open.
5. The brake booster vacuum connection can stay the same. Neither of my cars has a brake booster, so I have a different intermediate plate, which means my PCV valve didn't interfere and could stay right there.
6. I assume your car has the fancy thermally controlled chock that plumbs in the water- that all gets taken out or plugged or bypassed. You have a manual choke now!
I can elaborate on any of these points. Or order Jacks' book!
And then you have to install the choke cable, mess with the linkage a bit, and figure out an air cleaner. I used K&N filters for my cars and can give you the p/n's if needed- one fits a Sonett III (ultra low) and the other the 96.
So it's not quite a "bolt-on", is it? In the end though, it is definitely worth it for drivability and smoothness.
So give Chip a call- I'm sure he'll be able to help you out. Ask him about the thermostat pipe, the PCV valve and the vacuum connections.
