New to me - 72 96 V4 - Engine Cutout problem?

Hello - I am hoping someone can offer some suggestions for my current problem. I have recently acquired a 72 96 V4. It is fun to drive and more exciting in all aspects to the Volvo 122s that I used to drive daily. There is one issue that has me scared to drive it though. Once the car is up to operating temperature and accelerated from 2nd to 3rd gear the engine completely loses power and I have to restart it. I have encountered this mostly when I am charging uphill - so the loss of power at that point is very disconcerting. Unfortunately for me, I live in a hilly neighborhood so the struggle to get back to my house is very real. Yesterday after replacing the old fuel filter I was enjoying worry free driving for about 10 miles. As I began to head back home I lost power on 5 occasions - sometimes in 2nd gear heading up a 10% grade, sometimes in 3rd on a shallower grade. It also happened in 1st gear as I was nursing my way up the hill to my house.
I will now include my observations to give you some insight to this particular car. It has a electric fuel pump fitted. The dial on the gauge for the inline pump is set to 5. I assume that is 5 p.s.i. I have only had vintage cars with mechanical fuel pumps, so I have no idea if this is the correct pressure. The cooling fan is completely shot with each of the blades missing large chunks of the plastic fins. The car has a Weber 34-ICH carb, not sure if that was what was originally used but it has been on the car for sometime.
I suspect that the issue is a fuel delivery problem since the car starts reliably even after the shut down caused by the loss of power. I was going to bypass the electric fuel pump and go back to the mechanical type to see if that fixes my issue. On that note is there a good source for parts for these V4's - I am currently ready to order the mechanical fuel pump and the cooling fan.
Thanks for your assistance - I can't wait to take this car for a nice weekend excursion.
Glenn
