> Thanks for reporting back! I wish more people would let us know the outcome...
Yes. People are more likely to say "I figured it out" than explain what "it!" was. I am trying to somewhat narrate my work just to put information out on the web that will help others or myself in the future
> Sounds like a very successful job!
> Many of us don't bother with gaskets- we use a thin smear of RTV and call it good.
I just did gaskets on the top and rear case. I really like the felpro sheets and it only took me 10 or 20 minutes. I did use some RTVish stuff on the gaskets as felpro suggested. For the bellhousing I just used some anaerobic gasket sealer.
> Did you upgrade the pinion nut to the later, stronger locking one? Did you use thread lock on it? Did you take apart the freewheel and clean it or leave it alone? Just curious.
I am not sure - but I believe I used the pinion nut from second other box, which was a later style I believe (it has a ribbed casing ). Not sure if it's a later nut. What were the differences there? The "Castle" washer and nut were in good shape however, so I reused them.
> freewheel.
I took it apart. Besides losing the springs all over my garage floor about 20 times, it was fairly simple. finally I used a dab of grease to help hold the springs in place while putting it together. I did not replace anything, and the needle bearing was in good shape. and then I put it in. maybe I am lucky but there wasn't much too it. Went in with a few twists?
> I probably have a rear lens for you- assume you need just the lens and not the whole light assembly? Is it single colored red or orange on top? I think from the year, it should be orange on top but sometimes people change things around. Let me know and I can look. Unlikely I have a mirror, but I can look for that as well when I check for the lens.
Per TSN classifies, a Mr Vernon in Arkansas supplied me with the rear lens, the assembly, and a mirror. He's posted them to USPS and I am waiting them with great excitement.
