I'm in Perth Western Austalia and am looking at entering my 99 in the Tapestries (speeeling?)rally in October
There are two different temperature thrmostats that can be used in the 99. I think they are reated to 92 C and 82 C. Whenever I replace my thermost I use the cooler ones as you know how hot it gets here in Oz. (roll on summer!) The car temperature still runs between a third and just below half on the temp guage. (Except when driving 3 hrs straight at 130kmh) on a 37 degree day in my 99 turbo (Perth to Eneabba)) The engine got hot on that day because the car had a partially blocked radiator, nearly completly blocked fuel filter causing it to run lean and it was very hot and I drove very fast....with the air con on, the temp guage was 2mm below the red I think that may have contributed to the second head I cracked on that car. Moral of the story...Do not overheat the engine, and speed kills.....old turbo saabs (that is why I sold my 99turbo)
