Steve L's points are well-taken -- although, in defense of two-strokes, I'd say that while there's not a huge amount of power, it is a LOT of fun trying to get the most out of what you have! A two-stroke is also a more refined handler than a V4 because the front wheels are less heavily loaded. And while stroker parts are less common, two-stroke owners have realized that and seem to be pretty good about banding together to share sources and find what they need. I think the
Also, if you want to restore a pre-99 car, don't overlook the 95 -- mechanics similar to a 96 and similar advantages/disadvantages for the restorer, but when you're done you've got this cool (and useful) little mini station wagon that's even more distinctive.
