Hi Roger, yours is a novel rationalization for the freewheel feature that I have never come across before. Andy explained it in the usual way in his post http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9x/index.html?bID=3796. I do not believe that the idea was to improve controllability in a skid on icy roads as you state. It is certainly possible that a trained, alert driver could maintain better control by your process than if there were no freewheel, but there are not a lot of drivers in that category. I would be very interested if you can support your assertion by any reference to Saab material.
