Kansas, Your concerns about function when needed are of course very wise. They can be checked very simply by a quick pull on the belt. If the inertia system is working, it will stop. I too, had those concerns. Sadly, a real test was also cofirmed by me in an accident last year. Seatbelts are in general non serviceable by a dealership because of legalities. Unit repacement is the only smart move by them. The seatbelts may have changed clips and mounting points, but the mechanics are identical on all(length of belt in all is same). If you were to grab a set of belts from a junkyard, when you go to install them they won't work...guaranteed. The ball and cup setup will have to be reset. You can put 900 belts in a 99. The four door 900 ones mount in a very similiar way to 99's. You will however, have to slice the belt loop seam at the floor mount point, and restitch it with heavy nylon thread. Use that end to feed the belt through your rear panel. You will obviously need the donor lock posts to match as well. If you want to retain your seat belt warning buzzer, there's a bit to that. Early clips work off of ground, later are positive signal. I simply removed the buzzer, and ran a line from the ignition switch to the seatbelt indicator as they did in Europe. Early buzzers are only in the States. It may sound a bit confusing, but if you have a bad belt, take that one apart and you will see how simple it really is.I fix watches, so perhaps it just seems easy to me. If you know a watch or clock guy, show them you old belt. They would confirm what I'm saying. Best of luck.
