If you can find the Saab tools for removing and installing the 99 pump it would make the job much safer and easier. Someone on this board may know where to find them. Otherwise, you will have to do some jury rigging. I made a puller/press which mounts to the bolt holes for the water pump cover, but had some help from a machinist.
You may want to let an experienced Saab mechanic do the job, because it can be very tricky.
When you pull the old water pump, it comes out as an assembly, with seals, bearing, etc. still in place. I put the whole thing in a bench vice lengthwise, supporting the impeller from behind with a length of 2" pipe, and something like a piece of hard plastic against the threaded end of the shaft. Then carefully tighten the vise, and the two parts will press apart. Be very careful. The cast iron pump shaft is much more fragile than it looks. This also goes for the idler shaft. Be sure the pump shaft and/or the idler shaft is able to rotate freely as the pump is extracted from the motor, or you will strip the helical gears that engage the two shafts. Use the same precautions when reinstalling the new pump parts. This must be done one piece at a time, not as an assembly. Then be careful pressing the impeller back on the pump shaft. Don't use too much downward pressure (that may be why your bearings are failing), and don't put any pressure at all on those gear teeth, or you may have to buy that electric pump after all!
Good luck!!
