96 transmission issues Posted by paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from paul) on Sun, 10 Nov 2002 10:09:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
200 mi after an engine rebuild, my 73 96 has developed a bad clutch judder and has clutch whining as the clutch pedal is depressed or released. I have checked the read trans mount as best I can from the inside and nothing appears wrong with it. The front engine mounts are secure. The engine does not visibly jump when the juddering occurs. The car shifts fine once it is moving, but I checked the trans fluid level and there was no visible fluid (I last replaced the fluid with Redline about 2000 mi ago). I am unhappily suspecting a bad tranmission seal, perhaps disrupted when I pulled and replaced the engine. Does this sound right? Any experience with this? I have never disassembed a transmission and don't really have the time or inclination to - how hard is it to replace just transmission seals? Is this something a local generic transmission shop could handle? Could sure use some advice.
