Oh yeah it was...I had one when I was 17 and living in Britain. Great engine design...weak components which Saab put right in the 73 2.0litre version of the engine. Saab manufactured the 2.0litre but bought the triumph 'Ricardo' engine from the 'standard triumph' company back in 1969. In fact...correct me if I'm wrong...Saab used the engine first before Triumph did in the Triumph Dolomite built first in late 1970. Also, Saab only used the engine in 1709cc capacity with the freewheel 99 gearbox which was dropped when the 1854cc engine became vaialable. The 1709cc motor put out only 80bhp...the 1854cc produced 85bhp...these are UK figures btw and feel free to correct me if my memory ain't what it used to be. I also owned a 72 99E Automatic with the injected 1854cc angine worth 95bhp. But the Borg Warner 35 tranny bogged that engine doen real good.
