Hey chris...
Hatches and doors are compatible for the 3-door models. All bolt-in, easy to do. You can swap front steering members and rear axles, so you can go with either bolt pattern. Obviously, if you go with the later '88+ ones you can throw on 9000 calipers. The rear axle swap is a good deal, as then you can use 900 rear shocks - front shocks and all four springs are already compatible. Doing so will widen the rear track ever so slightly. The only 900 gas tank that will fit is a 1979/1980 tank - it's a worthwhile upgrade as it's plastic, so it's lighter and stronger and doesn't rust. Seats can be swapped as can most interior panels, but that's about it for the interior. No luck on heater cores, dash parts, HVAC etc. There were a couple optional c900 front center consoles that are compatible between the two.
You can install a first-gen B201 motor (with the single-pulley alt/water pump) but that leaves no space for belt changes - like you gotta pull the motor! I believe you could theoretically swap on such a water pump, alternator, and crank pulley to a later B201 or a B202. That's rather inconvenient for maintenance, so it's easier to just bash in the firewall - literally. Sure, you can get the right firewall panel from Europe or do a nice welding job, but just hit it with a big hammer a lot - that works. If you have a picture of the end result, it would make it easier to see what/where/why to start smashing. Exhausts are roughly the same, though the downpipe is not. I think you can move the battery to the trunk, then use a c900 downpipe - the stock 99 downpipe goes straight down off the turbo, not off to the side. You can modify the front end of the 99 to accept a c900 radiator and update to the 900-style cooling system, but it's a hack-job and not a clean fit. Regardless, I do plan on doing this with my 99T.
My 99T is up on jacks in the garage, where it's been almost all year. Ran out of steam. Good luck! :)
