C'mon Chrisx, there is no challenge to slapping a 16V in a 99T to make it go fast. Plus, it will ruin the originality of a CLASSIC. There were only a few thousand 1978 99Ts imported to the States and most are gone. The ones that are left should be preserved! Yes, I know the b-engine is a PITA. Parts are hard to find and there is the waterpump issue. Just ask Craig R... his '78 99T has been in my garage for a month waiting for rebuilt drivetrain. He could have slapped a 16VT in there for much less $ and time but he is holding out for the "vintage performance" setup because he knows how unique it is. Look, I love the 16VT engine, smooth power and easy to upgrade, but EVERYONE has one. Slap a rrfpr on, doodle with the APC knobs and go hunt down some neons - big deal. For a real challenge restore the "B" to its original glory. Then modify it, tune it and improve on it to make 16V owners cry - now you've got something special. Hey, its not a bad performer in stock form and its just as reliable as any 16V. I drive mine everyday and it never lets me down. ~11 psi on a p+p'd head, modified intake, EWP and this old bucket scoots. Is it as fast as my SPG? No way! But it could be without too much work and no slamming the firewall with a sledgehammer either. A smaller compressor housing would help reduce lag, water injection and msd ignition to reduce detonation, a big-ass intercooler up front. Saab got 240 HP out of this engine in the seventies with the rally program and you can too! Anyway, I hope you consider it, let me know if you need help with the project.
