I've removed the cylinder head on my '75 99L due to a blown headgasket, but I want to make sure the head isn't cracked.
I've noticed a tiny erosion 'crater' inbetween the inlet and exhaust valves on the head (#3 cylinder), could this be a crack? The piston was clean with coolant, but no noticable tracking from coolant leakage was present in this area on the head to indicate a problem..
ANyway on removal the head gasket was in a pretty bad way, the gasket basically fell to bits on removal and the reinforement rings had disintagrated on 1 and 2 cylinders, I'm surpised the car still ran at all!
