I am really enjoying my 2010 Saab 9-5 Aero. At $29k, it was worth taking a chance on. Yes, I did have the usual problems; a few bulbs in the rear lights (fixed now), rear trunk LED Light (fixed) third brake light (fixed), and eventually the NAV (it really doesn't bother me about the time being wrong) so it's going to be my last fix. The rest of the stuff seems workable.
So far, I think I've spent about $1,500.00 getting the bugs worked out.
I've also spent another $2-1/2 k on upgrade, but that's elective stuff. Black Saab Wheels, Hirsch dash kit, and lowering springs. Wow, it's really cool now.
I found, like many others, that many of the main drive train parts are GM. You will also find many of the misc parts are also GM. Please do your research and cross reference the parts thing. So I feel engine and tranny are going to be ok, and other things will be ok too. I also feel that for atleast the next 5 years I'm going to just drive her and smile.
So what's the good?
Well, I'm driving a car that is actually unique, safe, and comfortable (awesome seats). Buying an A6 with equal parts pieces and stuff would have been over $60k, and figuring in CA. Sales tax, then the two cars are about $33k apart. I'll just invest it, leave it in the bank, but probably save for the eventual onslaught of innovative electric, or possibly diesel electric hybrids that will hit the market very soon.
I truly feel cars are going to make huge leaps in terms of mileage, safety, and engineering. I'm betting the next 5 years will be just about the right amount of time. No regrets here.
