With my 4 previous OG900 Saabs never needed a fuel pump in any of them up to 200k or more. Also have 2000 9-3 SE, 50k...never a problem. This may be worth noting...the Saab uses a very high capacity fuel filter. I have never changed a fuel filter in any of my cars and I have never had any fuel starvation problems or fuel pump failures. Many post here that fuel pump failures occur shortly after a fuel filter change. Running the tank to very near empty could also cause problems with cavitation. I suspect if the pump is subject to any amount of cavitation, either by running low or out of fuel, or by improper procedures in changing of the fuel filter, it will die a quick death. Maybe that is why I have never one fail.
