Well, I did the shift linkage upgrade myself - the parts were about $200 all told. The difference in shift feel is quite noticeable though - much crisper and precise, with less resistance caused by that crappy pivot bushing. It shouldn't take more than 1-2 hours to put it in - if someone tries to tell you it'll take more, they're either lying or aren't familiar with it (took me about 2 hours and I've never messed around with it before).
The suspension upgrade is pretty pricey - I believe the parts alone are around $400, it can't take too long to do though as my local Saab indie shop quoted me a bit over $600 for the whole job. It's a pretty involved DIY job - requires dropping the subframe, popping the ball joints, etc. so I'd probably leave it to a shop if you aren't too sure of yourself with DIY. I wouldn't bother if your car drives and handles fine though - it's a good way to go though if you need to do a total suspension overhaul.
If you haven't already, the short belt mod is a great idea. Also, it's a good idea to retorque your head cylinder bolts, as they can loosen over time.
