When something develops an intermittant fault, it is hard to say. You need to see if the FP fuse gets power when cranking when it will not start. And then you could disconnect the CPS sensor at that time and check for resistance, should be a few hundred ohms. If very high or infinite, that absolutely means that the sensor is the problem.
It would be neat to rig up a power indicator onto the FP fuse, so that you could open the fuse panel door, crank and see the status of that.
